Each year the Ukraine Kyiv Pavilion organizing team/committee executes a new and vibrant experience for pavilion.
guests. This is accomplished by constantly changing themes with which we focus on showcasing; cuisine, music, a cultural display, and an educational component of the pavilion for guests to experience. Creating a new and
different pavilion guest experience from year to year, results in our pavilion being consistently one of the largest
and most popular Folklorama pavilions, with an average attendance of over 10,000 guests annually.
This August 2024 Ukraine Kyiv pavilion is proud to display the rich and vibrant sights and sounds of a village fair.
Ukraine has a long history of coming together and celebrating that which is deeply rooted in our culture and heritage.
Who among Ukrainians has never heard the word "Yarmarok"? Or, who among us hasn’t heard of the “Fair”?
A Holiday from work and household chores, the bartering of goods with the thrill of a good deal, where there were constant discounts on everything from apricots to weaving products with friendly smiles.
From time immemorial, these great auctions – fairs – have been held on Ukrainian lands. All sorts of goods stood in swaths on the marketplaces. Everyone bought what they couldn't do themselves.
Long before dawn, peasants got out of the villages on foot or on carts and dragged themselves in a long line to the place of the fair. We went to the fair as if for a big holiday – beautifully dressed, in a good mood. The fair lasted for several days and was a place of comradery, commerce, and good will for people from different and sometimes remote areas. So, it is natural that each fair was not only a marketplace, but also a place for entertainment.
Colorful scenes full of folk witticisms, jokes, buying, and selling were complemented by the group singing of young people, games and amusements, music, and the playing of Kobzars and Lyre players. At the Yarmarok, you could always listen to traveling artists, or even on occasion, sing and dance in a group.
At the Ukraine Kyiv pavilion, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere of Ukrainian
Yarmarok through a variety of exhibits, displays, and activities.
Overall, the Ukraine Kyiv pavilion will hope to offer a unique and immersive experience that celebrates the rich
cultural heritage of Ukrainian Fair We hope it becomes a must-see attraction for anyone who wants to learn
more about our fascinating and colorful and important folkloric celebration.
We love our pavilion guests, and we can't wait to see you during the second week of the Folklorama Festival!
