Each year the Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion organizing team/committee executes a new and vibrant experience for pavilion
guests. This is accomplished by constantly changing themes with which we focus on showcasing; cuisine, music, a
cultural display, and an educational component of the pavilion for guests to experience. Creating a new and
different pavilion guest experience from year to year, results in our pavilion being consistently one of the largest
and most popular Folklorama pavilions, with an average attendance of over 10,000 guests annually.
This August 2023, Ukraine-Kyiv pavilion is proud to display the rich and vibrant traditions of Ukrainian Christmas.
Ukraine has a long history of celebrating Christmas, which is deeply rooted in the country's culture and heritage.
The Ukrainian Christmas celebration, known as “Rizdvo,” is a special occasion that brings families and communities
together in a spirit of joy and camaraderie.
At the Ukraine-Kyiv pavilion, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere of Ukrainian
Christmas through a variety of exhibits, displays, and activities. They will learn about the unique customs and
traditions associated with the almost month-long celebrations, including the unique visit of St. Nicholas, the
preparation of a traditional 12-dish dinner, the singing of carols, the presentations of the ‘Vertep’, as well as the
celebrations of the New Year’s Malanka.
We plan to organize, a presentation of a household scene featuring a stunning display of traditional decorations
and customs Ukrainian Canadian families currently still embrace when celebrating Christmas festivities. Also, a focus
will be on our stage performances which will highlight beautiful carols, songs and dances traditionally seen and
heard during this festive time.
Overall, the Ukraine-Kyiv pavilion will hope to offer a unique and immersive experience that celebrates the rich
cultural heritage of Ukrainian Christmas. We hope it becomes a must-see attraction for anyone who wants to learn
more about our fascinating and colorful and important winter celebration.
We love our pavilion guests, and we can't wait to see you during the second week of the Folklorama Festival!
